Shadowsocks monitoring

SOCKS5-based encrypted proxy protocol, URI auto-detect — actively verified from ExitProbe's distributed edge probes.

About Shadowsocks

Shadowsocks is a lightweight encrypted SOCKS5 proxy. It is one of the oldest and most portable circumvention tools, with clients on every platform.

Share links come in three real-world shapes — modern SIP002 with plaintext or base64 userinfo, and the legacy fully-base64-encoded form. Monitors that only support one of the three fail mysteriously on valid nodes.

How ExitProbe tests it

  • 1ExitProbe parses all three common ss:// formats (SIP002 plaintext, SIP002 base64 userinfo, legacy full-base64).
  • 2Establishes a real Shadowsocks session with your cipher and password from an edge probe.
  • 3Verifies the exit IP through live traffic, not just a TCP connect.
  • 4Wrong cipher or password combinations are reported as auth failures, not vague timeouts.

Your credentials are stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and only decrypted in memory at check time on the probe running the test. They never appear in logs, API responses, or incident payloads.

Common questions

Which ciphers are supported?

All modern AEAD ciphers (chacha20-ietf-poly1305, aes-256-gcm and friends) as used by current clients. Legacy stream ciphers are validated but discouraged.

My link is one long base64 blob — fine?

Yes, that is the legacy format and it is auto-detected alongside SIP002.

Does a plugin (obfs/v2ray-plugin) break checks?

Standard plugin parameters in the URI are parsed where present; exotic plugin combos are best verified with a manual Check Now after importing.
